South Africa’s Entertainment Industry Loses Another Icon As Legendary Hip Hop DJ, DJ Dimplez Passes away

I speak for a lot of us when I say that once again, the entertainment industry has been left reeling after this latest loss.

The times we are living in are beyond scary and beyond demoralizing. We are unfortunate enough to live in a time where shortly after one icons death and memorial service, the country has to wake up to the loss.

Boitumelo Athiel Mooi, known to his fans as DJ Dimplez, was one of the most iconic names in this country’s hip hop and event culture. Not only was his name a mainstay in this country’s premier club and event scene, he was also the mastermind behind one of the most significant events to grace South Africa’s event calendar, Pop Bottles.

An event that brought the who’s who from every corner of the entertainment industry, mixing that with regular South Africans, created a space never before seen by many event attendees. It is an event that is etched in this generation’s history and a place that saw many of our present-day superstars and legends interact with one another before they were the superstars they are today.

Not only was DJ Dimplez’s name synonymous with happiness and a good time, but he was also one of the architects behind many of hip hop’s classic bangers, the likes of which can still get the crowd moving and shaking if dropped in any groove setting today. Songs like “Way Up” featuring Cassper Nyovest and JR and “Yaya” featuring DreamTeam and Anatii are songs that will forever have their place in the memory banks of an entire generation.

It is extremely tough to push forward with all this pain and loss. I believe that our one duty to these fantastic souls we have lost is a continuation of everything they gave us. Let their legacies never wash away, and may their souls rest in eternal peace

Go well, DJ Dimplez; you will never be forgotten.
