On 10 February 2023, popular South African rapper, AKA born Kiernan Forbes, was shot and killed at a popular night spot on Florida Road in Durban. According to a witness at the scene, Forbes was shot while standing on the pavement when gunfire rang out shortly after 10.00 p.m.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the police are investigating two cases of murder. Without naming Kiernan Forbes, Netshiunda confirmed one of the deceased was a popular musician. The second person shot is said to be AKA’s former manager, Tebello Motsoane, known amongst his peers as Tibz.
It is understood that AKA and a few friends were standing outside the Wish Restaurant around 10:00. Two unknown gunman pulled up and opened fire on them, killing the popular rapper and his bodyguard instantly. The motives for the murder is still being investigated.
