According to Forbes, New York City-born rapper and mogul, Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter has officially surpassed amassing a fortune of over 1 billion rands. This makes Jay-Z the first Hip Hop artist, and one of a handful of entertainers to do so. Together with his wife Beyonce, they became a billion dollar couple in 2017 with a combined net worth of over $1.1 billion.
Jay-Z’s business empire spreads stakes in music, art, real estate, liquor, stocks, startups and more. In 2007 Jay-Z sold Rocawear, a clothing line to Iconix for more than $200 million. From the Hip Hop scene, coming the closest to the iconic rapper is P Diddy whose estimated worth is set at $825 million.
Jay-Z first began his musical career after founding Roc-A-Fella Records in 1995. He subsequently released his debut studio album Reasonable Doubt in 1996. Released to widespread critical success, the album solidified his standing in the music industry. He has gone onto release twelve additional albums, which have all attained generally positive critical reception.
